The welcome mat to Summer…June.
And birthdays galore of friends and guests to raise a glass to. I had no trouble with that particular chore!
All of the trees seem to explode with leaves overnight, full, lush, a canopy to lounge under while reading on our Sunday of lazy. Public school finishes and then our city takes on that gentle energy as our beautiful people pack up and run away to the beach or the countryside. I always know that it is coming, but still have a moment of missing them for the couple of months they escape.
So happy to hear of their adventures when Fall says hello.
Sports are the center of attention for sure. World cup bringing so many from around the globe to include us in their infectious incredible support and joy.
And needless to say, the KNICKS!!
The swell of community pride remains, allowing even those that do not follow sports to be lifted up in the wave.
A new Jazz venue opened in the Muse Hotel, The Pocket. Chip and I had the pleasure of being able to go hear Wynton Marsalis and his Orchestra play because it fell on a Monday. A rare treat, indeed.
When you listen to them swing it makes your whole existing world of troubles slip right away, not kidding.
Various and spectacular peas, two kinds of Snow Peas, Sugar Snaps, fat little English Pods. Carrots so tiny and sweet they could be for a dollhouse.
Greens galore. Cucumbers beginning. Strawberries, here and gone due to the heat, but sweet as candy.
Baby turnips, tender beets. Eggs!
We could almost be a Vegetarian Restaurant during this Summer stretch with the generosity that farm provides to us. We are grateful.
Golden Tile Fish showcases all of those peas, with a sauce that needs extra bread for dipping and wiping up the plate. Golden Oyster mushrooms.
White Rioja, vintage White Burgundy, Island Whites from Mallorca.
Our ever constant Savory Tart sure loves those eggs, and when we do mushrooms for the sub of prosciutto it becomes somehow even more addictive.
Almost always Trebbianno. Rhone White Blends.
Maybe a Cotes Roannaise?
Plum and almond tart.
The absolute best Strawberry Ice Cream we have ever tasted.
Sparkling Brachetto.
And the Ajo Blanco is back! Served with a shot of Comoz Blanc Vermouth. Sublime.
I am excited to see what Chip is cooking up for July.
And our farmer at Tivoli is raising Squab!
Fall menu. Cote Rotie. Yum.
As we all enjoy the long days and the freedom of always feeling like we are out of school for the summer, despite our age!, I wish all of you stargazing while listening to music in the outdoor arenas, baskets overflowing with cold fried chicken, pickles, cheeses, crusty baguettes, lobster salad…and of course, perfectly cold bottles of Rose…notice that bottles means many!!
Thank you for allowing us to care for you, for adding to our delicate and constant weaving of the tapestry we call a Restaurant.
Take good care of yourselves and those around you.
Until next month,
–Tina and Chip
Your Hostess and Cook!
And the ever exuberant team at Eulalie.
